This is the first time that I've ever had to sell a vehicle, and I have to say that it made me feel a little sad to see an old friend roll away. For those that remember, I bought a 1989 Honda VTR 250 during the winter of 2002. I had spent much of the fall out to sea and was a looking for something new to keep me occupied. Taking motorcycle lessons seemed like a good idea (even if the course was being co-instructed by my old High School Principal). After finishing the weekend class little time passed before I found that Honda at a bike shop in Waynesboro, VA.

The price was right and a 250 cc street bike was just strong enough to give me a little thrill without being really dangerous. Looking at a copy of the title, I see that the odometer reading when I bought the bike was 14299 miles. As of today, the mileage is at 17114. That's right.....I rode the bike about 470 miles PER YEAR. Honestly, I think that most of those 2800 miles were done somewhere between 2004 and 2006. Either way, what has become apparent was that I wasn't terribly passionate about riding.

Kinda runs counter to my original claim of "missing an old friend," but I did have some great afternoons bombing through the turns of the Blue Ridge and Albemarle County.  I think that next time (yes...there will be a next time!) a larger machine will certainly be necessary, but I'm going to stay away from sport bikes. Sure, those things are the poor man's Lamborgini but they're just too uncomfortable.

What Ellen doesn't know yet are my plans for a side car.......

better yet...she need to learn to ride...and ride her own! you would put way more miles on that way...and yes, you need a more comfy, bigger traditional bike! (kim's mom)
